Grade 9 Maths Practice Papers

Grade 9 Mathematics practice papers in the CAPS exam style, with step-by-step worked answers for every question, plus tips for the end-of-year exam.

Grade 9 maths exams are set by each school, so there is no national Grade 9 paper to download. The best preparation is to practise with papers in the same style: mixed questions across the CAPS topics, with marks shown for each question.

Snap&Learn has written two Grade 9 practice papers in that style. Paper 1 covers numbers, exponents, algebra, patterns, graphs and finance; Paper 2 covers geometry, measurement, transformations, data handling and probability. Every question links to a full worked answer with the common mistake to avoid. Use them alongside your school's previous papers.

Exam structure

  • Most schools write two papers in November, each 1½ to 2 hours.
  • Paper 1 usually covers numbers, exponents, algebra, equations, patterns, graphs and financial maths.
  • Paper 2 usually covers geometry, transformations, measurement, Pythagoras, data handling and probability.
  • Check your school's exam guidelines for the exact topics and marks.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get official Grade 9 maths papers?

Grade 9 exams are set by schools, so ask your teacher for your school's previous papers. The national Annual National Assessments (ANA) for Grade 9 ended in 2015 and were written under a slightly different format.

How should I use these practice papers?

Write each paper under timed conditions without looking at the answers, mark it with the worked solutions, then redo every question you got wrong a few days later.

What if I don't understand a worked answer?

Snap the question into Snap&Learn with your grade set to Grade 9. You'll get a step-by-step explanation in plain language, and you can ask the tutor follow-up questions until it makes sense.
